Recently one of my die hard fans recounted an event from Z Is For Zero: Zero Is For Out of Time, and of course I was in awe. I am always taken aback when someone approaches me and want to talk about one of my books. Reviews and conversation like these make the craft of writing rewarding.

In 2017 Y is for Yesterday was released and what was to follow was Z is for Zero, the final novel in the alphabet series. This popular series would have been a crowning achievement in the literary world. But it was not to be, because unforeseen events befall us all. The author Sue Grafton of the alphabet series died in December of 2017. Ironically, the fans of this popular series got exactly what was promised: Z is for Zero.
In writing this post I am not trying to be disrespectful to the family or to the beloved author. It is heartbreaking to see a wonderful series and, as I have read, a wonderful person, give up a promising career to death. From my understanding, the family has commented that as far as they are concerned; the alphabet ends with Y.
It is on this note, or rather on the letter (Z) that I hang my latest novel. Z Is For Zero: Zero Is For Out Of Time. On one hand, I risk many saying that I should let dead author’s lie, but the writer in me could not let perhaps one of the most purest works of fiction go unwritten. Especially that of a mystery wrapped up in a mystery.

I write this novel in memory of all those who left something undone because they ran out of time, remembering that there is never enough time, especially when you are…out of time!

These novels were penned by (Annie Reeves), that is Janae Mayfield’s pen name. They comprise her life’s work, unfortunately; she died before completing the series, which was promoted to end with November to December.

When a teenage girl goes missing without a trace leaving her boyfriend as the number one suspect but there is not enough evidence to put him away. However, that doesn’t stop a community from stripping him of his promising career as a famous baseball player. Justine stumbles onto the story in 1989 by way of a set of mysterious clues disguised as riddles that are delivered to her doorstep.
While you are enthralled in these mysterious events, the weather turns cold and so does another mystery. November 1989, Justine finds herself involved in a game of wit and deception. Where multiple high profile socialites are about to suffer their ultimate fate at the hands of a merciless serial killer. The shocking paralysis is that Justine is on his or her list.
The riddles left by an unknown entity only exacerbate the complexities of each case. The enigmatic figure promotes these puzzles as clues to which only Justine can decipher.
